Qld: Employer organisations reshaping society academic

An academic says employer associations are gaining an ever-greater influence over the
federal government at the cost of trade unions and other representative bodies.

Dr LOUISE THORNTHWAITE from Griffith University's School of Industrial Relations, says
employer associations like the Business Council of Australia are deliberately reshaping
society in the interests of their members.

Dr THORNTHWAITE has exposed the role of employer associations in the book, Employer
Associations and Industrial Relations Change: Catalyst or Captives.

The book, which was co-edited by the University of Wollongong's Associate Professor
PETER SHELDON, will be launched tomorrow at the Mercure Hotel in Brisbane.
